Beginning with our first trip to Mongolian in 1999, FIRE has continually conducted medical needs assessments at clinics and hospitals. In 2005, we expanded our winter clothing distribution program to include medical mission trips. Volunteer medical professionals from the United States traveled to Mongolia, distributing tons of medical supplies that were shipped with the winter clothing. The medical volunteers also conducted impromptu training based on the supplies provided, as well as basic health safety and bedside training. Specialized training was also conducted in Ulaanbaatar on subjects from dermatology to palliative care. In 2008-2009, FIRE hosted international orthopedic surgical volunteers in Ulaanbaatar.
