(In Development)With a 98% literacy rate and 36% of the population under 18, Mongolia is primed for educational projects. There is a tremendous desire among Mongolians to learn English. However, most of the countryside has no resources to support this desire. In 2007, in cooperation with Marc Watkins of New York English and the Rotary Club of Ulaanbaatar, FIRE distributed 80 refurbished computers loaded with English language software to schools throughout Mongolia. We plan to expand this program to include basic English teaching supplies which are lacking in the Mongolian educational systems, including audio tapes, cartoons, English children’s books and board games. In addition, volunteers will travel to Mongolia to help local English teachers improve their English and teaching skills. The focus of the training and supplies distribution will be in rural Mongolia. This project will continue to use the rural distribution model established and fine tuned through the 6 clothing distribution trips. We are currently devloping this program. We plan to work closely with the Mongolian Education System to have greatest, most sustainable impact for the teachers and students of Mongolia as possible. We hope to implement training and resource development in 2011. Volunteer Opportunities |
